New Home

Anyone still showing a sign of caring about this blog? Hm, don't think so. I'm still plugging in my new one though.

So my hair is falling out. I'm guessing it has to do with my irregular eating habits, stress, and constantly flat ironing my hair. Fuck my life.

To keep this fashion related, I'll probably end up like Mat.

His hair used to be so sublime. Mine has never been though. Seriously, fuck my life.

Spring Couture 2009

What a shocking disappointment that turned out to be. I was so excited for it and it resulted in being the worst and dullest season yet! I was so excited for it and now I just don't want to even review it.
My only favorite show was Dior and that says a lot. At least in my taste that is. I dislike Dior, I just hate what Galliano has done to it. Even though Dior is outrageous and dramatic every couture season, the Spring collection wasn't too bad. Better yet, every single season in existenceIt was so simple but it had a nice creative and refreshing touch to it. Especially the gowns halfway towards the end of the show! A little dull? Yes. Beautiful? Absolutely breath taking.

This season designers were asked two simple questions, "What are your inspirations?" and "And what do you think about the receession?" When responding to the question about the recession, Galliano replied with such a fabulous answer to be honest. He said, "There's a credit crunch, not a creative crunch. Of course, everyone is being more careful with their discretionary purchases. I am. But it's our job to make people dream, and to provide the value in quality, cut, and imagination."

Such amazing words. Oh John, I wish the other designers had thought like you this season.

It's times like these

that make me wish it was just me and my mom. It's not that I hate my dad or anything, but as bad as it sounds, I sometimes wish my parents were divorced, separated, whatever. As much as I love my dad and think he is a great man, as much as I respect him. I cannot love him as much as I love my mother.
I'm honestly saying, I used to hate my parents, especially my mom. And I don't regret it as childish that makes me come off as. Because honestly as time went by I ended up realizing how great and wonderful they truly are, especially my mom. But separately that is.
Together, they're just so unhappy, and it makes everyone unhappy. Al' be it their are those times when you just know they love each other so much; but those times are so rare, sad to say, but true. Separately, they're completely different people. I honestly like them when they're separate because I can bond with them at ease, well my mom that is, I don't think I could bond with my dad as I used to. Actually, I don't think I ever did? But I don't know, maybe I'm just having childish thoughts. Maybe it's just that I don't know how these matters work because I've never been in a relationship and or the fact that I don't know what it's like to be married. I don't know the hardships that go on; I don't know if it's a natural nature or not for married couples to be constantly disputing or being unhappy. Nothing is perfect, I know that. And no one has perfect parents, their always is at least one flaw. Whether you know of it or not.
I don't know, I hope things get resolved. I'm only hoping for the better, separated or not.

My fierce, and fabulous mother for your time:

Something I noticed,

Photobucket

I've been constantly listening to these albums on my iPod recently. They're all just so individually unique and amazing to be honest.

"Circus"-Britney, I love you, and it hurts that I can't go see you in concert for the first time now that I'm old enough to go see you. This album is just perfection and Britney's greatest. (Blackout is such a close second) It has it's catchy pop songs that made you originally love her and those fantastic electropop songs that Britney has become.

"Tonight: Franz Ferdinand"-So I'm really digging their new sound to be honest. I don't get most of the hate. It has it's chill moments and then it has it's fast moments. It works so cohesively. I particularly love listening to "Tonight" when I'm getting ready to go out.

"The Fame"-When Lady Gaga first appeared in my life last summer while watching her perform on the Miss Universe pageant, I thought, "Ssoo cheesy!". But after that day I had "Just Dance" stuck in my head for days! So I was intrigued and I decided to give the girl a shot. And wow! Do I love her now! Honestly her album is so moving and fun. It works well when I work out, dance, go out, or even when I'm doing chores. She's what I believe to be the next Kylie Minogue. I honestly hope she doesn't fade into obscurity after this album.

"Santogold"-So Santogold is pretty reminiscent of M.I.A. to be honest. She has a pretty funky sound that has me playing her album on repeat when I'm in a chipper mood. It's definitely a good album and I can't believe I continued doubting myself on whether or not to get this. I thought it was going to be a quick and boring album with at least three to four good tracks. But I can't get enough of it, and I remember being disappointed when it finished because I wanted more.

"19"-I remember when I first heard Adele, that day I was telling a friend how much I love Amy Winehouse's music and how much I wanted her to get cleaned up and come out with another amazing album. Later that night I ended up watching Saturday Night Live as usual and guess whose a musical guest? Wow was I easily caught when I heard "Chasing Pavements" and "Cold Shoulder". Her voice is absolutely amazing, as are her lyrics and of course "19". Whenever I'm in a contemplative moo, I lay on my bed, listen to "19" and think about whatever is going through my mind at the time. It just works, she just works. Here's hoping she gets the Grammy's, girl deserves it.

By the way....
Let me introduce to you.... BRICKY! :)

Photobucket

Yes, it's an old iPod; It's the very first iPod I ever got. And I decided to use it again. I was thinking about getting a regular sized iPod awhile back because I wanted a big fat one. But when I saw them at Wal*Mart, I noticed that Apple has changed the big chunky iPods to big slender iPods. And made of aluminum to add. Oh well, it makes them more Eco-friendly so that's what truly matters right?
Any who, I remember that I had this iPod so I went on a scavenger hunt for it. After I found it, I set it to charge and remembered how it takes eight hours to completely charge successfully; as opposed to these iPods that take just about two or even less hours. Yes, you read right, eight whole hours. I literally had it charging from the time I was done with homework to the time I went to bed and that wasn't even eight hours. Want to know how old it is?

Photobucket

Yea, it's still in black and white. That's how old it is. Black and white and eight full hours to successfully charge. No videos, games (besides brick breaker), or even photos. Sucks right? But in my opinion, I actually like it. It's just so vintage! It's a vintage iPod. And it's super fat and makes a really loud clicking sound that I love about it. Or maybe it's just a parental affection, that I love my babies regardless the situation?
I actually didn't have a name when I first had it. Bricky barely got his name last week. I took it to school to show it to my friends and they all loved it. And when I showed it to Danielle, she showed it to Rhyan and called him a brick. And that's basically how he got his name after that. Crazy, interesting story I know. :)

Menswear F/W 09 Milan

So thanks to first semester finals, I sadly was not able to enjoy Milan Fashion Week and somewhat of Paris. Thank God they're done with. Regardless, I did get to catch up with it every other day.

Obvious given trends I noticed that the designers remained on cue with was with the peak lapel, separates, and baggy trends. Another noticeable trend that basically highlighted the theme of the upcoming Winter season's look, Recession Chic. Honestly, just about every designer seemed to be inspired by this recession. Something about most looks and pieces just felt like it came from the 1920's. I honestly can't wait for the Great Depression inspired editorials that are going to be appearing next Winter. Not that this recession is a good thing, oh hell to the NO!

Costume National

just a few of my favorite looks

Al' be it a little monotonous this season with the overly cohesive black and grey color scheme, Costume National is never a disappointment. Every piece is wearable and can be arranged with different pieces. It's very Balmain no? It's like the adjacent men's version of it to be honest.

Jil Sander

O' Raf Simmons, your collection crosses on the borderline of amazing and dull. I personally enjoyed the use of the Earth tones similar to that of the pea coat. The coloring and the creative usage was used perfectly! The last chosen look is not exactly one of my favorite pieces in the collection, I put it to display itself as an example; I can appreciate the experimentation of the male silhouette but that's as far is it goes for me. It just seems a bit too femme for my taste, the waste is just too overly emphasized for my liking. (And this is coming from someone who is always complaining that menswear needs more intricate details and what not...)

LES Hommes

What a disappointing collection. Those were honestly the only three looks I thought were okay. No separate individual pieces, no assortments of looks to craze about; just those three. A transparency and gold suit from this collection are actually trends two seasons too late. The gold suit is actually very reminiscent of Prada's S/S 09 foil dresses. A lot of it is actually reminiscent of previous F/W collections (female ones at that). The trousers are like Miu Miu 08. The cut out sweater is so last season's Dior Hommes inspired; didn't mind it there, but didn't like it here. OK, too much hating in this collection, time to move on...

Burberry

Dear Christopher Bailey, just to think when I was beginning to ignore Burberry, you create a collection that does not resemble anything of the last couple seasons, not that I disliked it, it's good to finally see some change. So simple, so cohesive, so chic. I feel as though every look should be worn exactly how you decided to arrange them together. Your coats and jackets, seriously, to die for! Gorgeous, gorgeous, with a dash of amazing. If I had all the money in this world, I would go insane for this shit. I'm glad I'm a Boy. XOXO Ben~*~ P.S. Bring back the S/S 08 tote bags, 'kay thanks.

Trussardi 1911

For one thing, fierce casting. The clothes on the other hand are not too impressive. At least comparing it too previous seasons that is. I'd wear this on a day to day basis though, not going to lie.

Marni

I dig this but some of the pants look a bit too much like thermal underwear, or in other words, LONG JOHNS. Everyone says Marni references every single designer but I see it as 1/4 Prada+1/4 Tim Hamilton+1/2 H&M ='s 100% Marni. A+ on the model choice.

Gianfranco Ferre

OK, someone hold me. I'm crying and shaking right now! What an incredible team! This entire collection is to die for! My favorite collection from Milan. The only words I can think of when I try to critique this is just "indescribable". The tailoring and design of the jackets are impeccable. And the large chunky scarves, so incredible. So sleek, and slick.

Prada

My first thought was, "Why is this so wearable?", but I've grown to love it. Very safe, very Prada. However this is how safe should be done. The play on youth and maturity excels this season as compared to the femininity vs. masculinity of F/W08. I can't tell if that's ombre or not but it needs more ombre even if it's subtle. Miucca, the bedazzling is at a 9 and were going to need it at a 6. Basically very Jsen Wintle F/W08 Guccis studs of F/W08 Yohji fabric movement, but very Prada at the same time. I hope I didn't confuse you.

Alexander McQueen

McQueen, you never disappoint. Such elegant, artistic pieces. Although there were some pieces that just left me questioning why they were there. But overall, just amazing as usual. When will they allow you to show during Couture? I got a complete Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde kind of feel of the show. Fabulous setting, just so you know.

I'll try to get Paris in maybe by Monday. Couture is a for sure deal. And obviously F/W Womenswear.

Gracias.♥B.

Hello, My Home is your Home

materialism [muh-teer-ee-uh-liz-uhm]
-noun
1.
a desire for wealth and material possessions with little interest in ethical or spiritual matters

obsession [uhb-sesh-uhn]
–noun
1. the domination of one's thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image, desire, etc.
2. the idea, image, desire, feeling, etc., itself.

I made an oath to start a blog when the Fall/Winter 09-10 Menswear season began, and it began on Saturday so excuse my tardiness. This little blog here will contain my opinions and peer reflections of fashion. Or as I like to call it "fashin". Maybe occasionally I'll go a bit off topic if I ever get tired of just posting this love of mine.

To be honest, the title of my blog's name "Materialistic Obsession" is pretty much a contradiction of what I believe fashion is all about. I basically picked this title because it explains what those who cannot respect it as much as myself and any other fashionista believe what it is. (My gawd, I can't believe I used the word "fashionista")

While yes, it may seem like an industry of vanity, materialism, contradiction, dreariness, and insanity. But I believe that it is so much more than that. I see it as a beautiful concept of expressing art. It has a beauty that branches out with many leaves. And all of them just add up to what can make it absolutely breathtaking and inspiring. One of the things I can agree is that it is an industry of vanity. But the way I use it is in the context of the clothes. Who honestly wouldn't feel amazing in Haute Couture? Or an outfit designed to look like a walking piece of art? Honestly, if I wore some of my favorite pieces, I would feel like one million bucks.

I honestly hope you'll enjoy my posts to come. (I will soon put in my thoughts about the past two/three days of Menswear in Milan.) I'm pouring all my heart and knowledge in this, regardless if I have readers or not.
~Be back soon~*~

'lots of ♥, Ben.

P.S. I Love You I'll try posting my Menswear opinions later tomorrow/today(?). Oh why did Menswear have to fall on the week of Finals?!

P.P.S. I'll probably be making a seperate blog for my personal problems aha, ok brb for real now! ;)
